The research programme “He Tangata, He Taiao, He Ōhanga1” (Strategic Outcome 3, Bioheritage National Science Programme) aims to incorporate information from a holistic set of values into a biosecurity risk assessment framework, leading to decisions which better reflect New Zealand’s values.

One of the challenges in developing frameworks to support decision-making in biosecurity is that there is no agreed standard for what constitutes a good decision. Therefore, the aim of this project is to better understand what makes a good biosecurity decision, a good decision-making process and a good decision maker, according to the diverse participants in the biosecurity system.
