A laboratory incubation technique was used to measure the release rate of nitrogen (N) from controlled-release fertilisers (CRF) and slow-release fertiliser (SRF). Two contrasting soil types and four temperatures (8, 12, 16 and 20˚C) were used in the incubation. Granules of fertiliser were placed on the surface of the soil and the amount of inorganic N released from the granule to the soil was periodically measured.
