Investigation into treatments of farmed red deer stags in New Zealand to reduce blood loss following velvet antler harvest

The New Zealand deer industry is concerned about blood loss of stags following velvet antler harvest. This relates to both a perceived risk to social licence, based on potential negative public perception of a velveted stag with visible blood on them, and from a desire to enhance animal welfare and the velveting process by reducing risks of harm to stags from blood loss.
