The CARLA® Saliva Test was developed after surveys of New Zealand sheep breeders carried out by Ovita (now B+LNZ Genetics) highlighted a need for an alternative test to using faecal egg counts to identify parasite resistant animals. This test not only easily identifies animals with reduced FEC but also young animals with high CARLA tend to be more productive, on average 1.5 kg heavier than low CARLA animals.
