For a number of years MIRINZ has been involved in mechanical dressing developments. As a result of this work, a simplified method of pelting a carcass has evolved.

This manual method has already been introduced into a number of large meat plants and small abattoirs. Because of its simplicity, this method can also apply to the home kill or one-off production scale.

This Bulletin outlines the procedure for pelting sheep and lambs. Also illustrated is a practical design of an inverted dressing rig that supports the carcass during work-up and completes final pelt removal.
