* Learning to love the world's most hated crop
The 2019 Earth and Climate Change report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) highlighted the urgency and scale of the environmental impact that anthropogenic transformations have on the landscape. Historically, palm oil has had a negative reputation for driving deforestation, loss of biodiversity, greenhouse gas emissions, social exploitation, and causing harm to health. In the eyes of many, in the western world it is considered the most hated crop. However, palm is highly productive compared to other crops and generates 40% of the world's edible oil with only 5% of land producing vegetable oil and 0.4% of total agricultural land.
