In this project, Mātauranga will be defined to establish its equivalence with Western science to support applications for the potential introduction of biocontrol agents into Aotearoa New Zealand.

Why?

  • Build a deeper understanding of the EPA mātauranga framework
  • Recognition and implementation of Te Tiriti obligations to support an informed and integrated approach to EPA biocontrol applications.
  • Integration of Waka hourua model into biocontrol applications

How?

  • Support the Mātauranga Māori framework developed by EPA
  • Develop an understanding of the EPA application processes
  • Work with Maori roopū experienced in these processes and who use these applications
  • Working together- we identify challenges and barriers to introducing Biological Control Agents (BCA)
  • Develop protocols for working together (Waka Hourua) and integrating the two knowledge systems
